Language Classes

To prepare children for a globalized world, our Local Stream curriculum exposes students to multiple languages, including Cantonese, English, Putonghua, and Spanish. Through immersion, experiential learning activities, songs, stories and games, children are introduced to phonology, vocabulary, and conversation skills by our specialist language teachers. This exposure not only enhances student linguistic abilities but also fosters cultural appreciation and understanding of the world.

Cantonese

In addition to the immersive learning of Cantonese during daily classroom routines and activities, engaging and interactive lessons introduce students to essential Cantonese vocabulary, fostering a solid foundation for language acquisition. Through songs and rhyming poems students embark on a journey of language discovery, immersing themselves in the melodious sounds and tones of Cantonese. The Cantonese curriculum in our Local Stream emphasizes conversational practice, allowing students to communicate with their peers and teachers confidently. Classroom discussions and show-and-tell activities encourage creativity and self-expression while reinforcing vocabulary acquisition. As students progress, reading and writing skills are gradually introduced, ensuring that our tailored approach meets the needs and abilities of each student to maximize student progress in Cantonese learning.

English

The English language program in our Local Stream is led by our specialist English teachers. Our curriculum is designed to make language learning a joyful and immersive experience. A wide range of vocabulary is introduced, enriching language repertoire and nurturing student communication abilities. Storytelling enables students to engage with narratives and develop a love for literature. Class conversations encourage students to express themselves confidently while practicing listening and speaking skills. Through phonics learning, children develop strong foundational skills in letter sound recognition and decoding. Activities designed to build literacy skills develop students’ reading and writing. Learning English becomes a playful adventure where games, play and activities enhance comprehension, vocabulary and literacy development.

Putonghua

The Putonghua language classes taught by specialist Putonghua teachers are designed to create an engaging environment for language learning and practice. Through the magic of songs and rhymes, students are introduced to simple vocabulary, laying a strong foundation for their language skills. Early reading is taught through captivating storytelling, fostering student interest in books and language learning. Activities dedicated to developing conversation skills allow students to develop and practice their communication abilities, building confidence and fluency at the same time. Students are introduced to Pinyin at a developmentally appropriate level in order to further develop literacy and pronunciation skills.

Spanish

Our Spanish curriculum, led by our specialist Spanish teacher, focuses on making Spanish language learning enjoyable and interactive. Through songs, games and stories, students are introduced to Spanish while being engaged in fun activities. The focus of our Spanish curriculum is building vocabulary knowledge and developing conversation skills that are useful for everyday life. Students progress from vocabulary learning to more complex conversational practice, which in addition to developing students as multilingual conversationalists, allows students to grow their confidence and communication skills.
